A migrating bird is caught in a net in the Jizera Mountains in village of Jizerka, Czech Republic, on September 21, 2016. Ornithologists from the Czech Society For Ornithology (CSO) use long mist nets to capture the birds in order to gather information such as species, age, weight and sex. This allows them to monitor long-term population and global migration patterns and help to track their migratory route and nesting sites. Similar projects are carried out around Europe. According to members of CSO, many of the birds captured in the Jizera Mountains are passing through the country from Northern Europe and Russia, heading south to spend winter in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
