Pin-up photoshoots were a dime a dozen in the late 30's, but Bruce Mozert changed the game with his revolutionary underwater scenes.
The American photographer exploded into the mainstream media in 1938 with his dazzling shots of models reading, cooking, and drinking champagne on the ocean floor. Mozert built a waterproof casing for his camera, and used condensed milk to create the amazing 'smoke' effect seen in one photo, since its fat content would cause it to rise. His project may have been low budget, but it was definitely high on innovation.
The photos captured became promotional tools for Silver Springs, the location of the shoot. They helped increase tourism to the coastal city in Florida, known for its crystal clear waters, and jumpstarted Bruce Mozert's career in photography. [ 14 photos total ]

It’s a good job that these vertical forests in Nanjing, China are going to produce 132 pounds (60kg) of oxygen every day, because they’ll literally take your breath away when you see them.
They’re called the Nanjing Towers, and once they’re complete in 2018 they’ll be Asia’s first ever vertical forests. Designed by Italian architect Stefano Boeri, each tower will stand 656ft and 354ft respectively, and between them they’ll house over 1,000 trees and approximately 2,500 shrubs from 23 different local species. The taller tower will contain offices, a museum, a green architecture school and a rooftop club, while the smaller tower will house a rooftop pool and a 247-room Hyatt hotel. Balconies will afford visitors stunning views of the dizzying vertical forests that are intended to help regenerate local biodiversity. These aren’t the first vertical forests that Stefano has designed however. Two have already been built in Milan and similar buildings have been planned for Lausanne, Switzerland. In an increasingly polluted world, these green designs are a real breath of fresh air. [ 6 photos total ]

France, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Germany and Iceland.
An easy question now. What do these countries have in common? The answer is Romania.
Mountains, seaside, beautiful architecture or natural wonders, you can find all of them in Romania.
I always thought that this country is unique. But the unicity of Romania is offered by the diversity of landscapes that you can find only in some of the European countries.
Don't you believe me? Take a look. [ 10 photos total ]

Foxes are my guide animal. Whenever I’m struggling the most, they always show up somehow. I have several fox tattoos and I’m probably gonna get more.
In January 2017 I traveled to Tokyo to get a TESOL certificate. I live in Mexico, so being in Japan is one of those once in a lifetime opportunity. That’s why I couldn’t let go the chance of paying a visit to the Fox Village.
It was a 2 hours ride on the Shinkansen (bullet train) to get to Shiroishi, Miyagi. Once I got there, I asked the guard was could I get a taxi and he was super nice and called one for me. This is not a strange thing in Japan, it seems to me that everywhere people are extremely friendly and they go out of their way to help you.
5 minutes later, as he said on the phone, the taxi driver was there. On the way, he showed me an adorable album of Zao Kitsune Mura (Fox Village) which only made my excitement levels go over the top.
After 30 minutes we finally arrived. He gave me a card with his phone number and told me I could ask someone to call him whenever I was done.
The entrance fee is only 1000¥ (8usd) and they explain to you in English how to behave yourself inside. If a fox gets too close you are supposed to show dominance. Don’t lean down cause they might approach behind you and try to bite. Be careful with your backpack and belongings cause they are territorial animals which mean they are probably gonna pee on your stuff. And most importantly, under any circumstances do not attempt to touch them.
Of course, I didn’t follow any of these instructions. I traveled all the way from Mexico, what was I supposed to do, just not do it? And nope, I didn’t get peed on.

A special Sunday event, a photographic essay celebrating a few of these magnificent raptors. Not Falcons (nor Patriots), these superb owls hail from Europe, Asia, North and South America, captured in photos both recent and more than a century old. If you have some time today before the big game (or are skipping the event entirely) I invite you to have a look. [ 28 photos total ]
